Rota Virus Vaccine

The rota virus causes a diarrheal disease that affects almost 100% of children under the age of 5, with most serious effects in children under 2 years. It is transmitted through the fecal-oral route. For example, a child might go to the bathroom and then play with toys that are shared with others.
 
 
Symptoms (last from 2-7 days):

 

  1. Starts with vomiting
  2. Diarrhea and fever

 

 
The Vaccine

 

  • It is given to reduce hospitalization (1 in 20 children visit the emergency)
  • The World Health Organization recommends this vaccine in all national immunization programs
