Risk factors for Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS):

 

  • Bed sharing: when an infant shares the bed with their parents
  • Co-sharing: when the child and parent shares the same room
  • Overheated environment
  • Over-bundling
  • Sleeping on tummy
  • Maternal smoking

 

 
Protective factors against SIDS
 
  • Breast feeding
  • Sleeping only on the back
