How to Safely Use Ibuprofen

Author: Dr. Colin White, MedSchoolForParents.com Expert
Ibuprofen decreases fever and controls moderate pain. Using the recommended dose for your child’s weight will usually have no adverse effects.

The only time ibuprofen can have adverse effects is if the child is dehydrated and given ibuprofen. This is because ibuprofen stops the production of a protein needed to combat dehydration.

Overall, giving ibuprofen usually does not have adverse effects; however, you should not give the drug more than 3 days in a row.
